Challenge Penticton - My Choice for 2013

Back in August, Tim , Ellen and I took a trip up to Penticton BC to volunteer for the 30th Anniversary of Ironman Canada.   Days before we were set to travel to the Okanagan, it was announced that this would be the final year of Ironman Canada in Penticton.  A new race organization called Challenge Family would be taking over the race in the years to come.   Initially, Ellen and I were both a little sad.  Part of our motivation for volunteering was to get 'front of the line' sign up for the 2013 Ironman.  This will be my 3rd iron distance race and Ellen is signing up for the 1st time.   This sadness didn't last long.   The opportunity to take part in the inaugural North American Challenge Family event was just to exciting to be sad about Ironman leaving.  Since then, Ironman Canada has announced that it will be moving to Whistler, BC. When Ironman Canada was in progress, we took off for a 100km ride of our own o...

Ironman Lottery

Last year, when the Kona Ironman Lottery was made available, I said "I would NEVER do an Ironman in Kona. It would be too windy and too hot!" Friends thought I was crazy as they filled out the lottery forms on-line and provided their credit card numbers for the lottery fee. I have watched Kona coverage on-line for many years thought it looked way to tough. I have been to Kona and know first hand how windy The Big Island is. No thank you! Fast forward to today...I entered the Kona Lottery. $90 US and a few bits of information later, I now have 2 ballots in the lottery. There are 50 available lottery spots for International entries. For full Kona Lottery details click here . After watching the Kona Championships on Universal Sport for most of last Saturday, I was sold. Having now completed an Ironman, I know how tough it is...but I also know how rewarding it is. I still have my plan of Ironman Canada 2011 but thought I would put my ballots in the Kona box. Who knows...

I Have a New Coach

Late last year and early this year, many pro triathlete changed coaches. Chrissie Wellington changed coaches twice, Simon Whitfield changed coaches and so did Belinda Granger and Hillary Biscay. BREAKING TRIATHLON NEWS...it is official...Erin337 has also changed coaches. As of February 9th, 2009, I will be training with Kevin Cutjar . I would like to thank Peak Centre for giving me a great base to build from. Paul, Mike and Lucy all gave me great support for my training and lactate testing. My plan is to continue to use Peak Centre for my lactate testing. Now that I am training for Ironman Canada , I was looking for a coach who could provide me a holistic training program (swim, bike, run and nutrition) on a one on one level. My new coach comes highly recommended by many of my SAA friends. Kevin lives in Penticton BC and has completed 30+ Ironman races and won the Ultraman challenge in 1995. He had great knowledge in both coaching and nutrition needs of Ironman athletes. I am now ...
