Delta Triathlon - April 2013

An annual tradition for me since 2006, the 2013 Delta Triathlon was once again a great event.  This year, the adult race was before the Kids of Steel race so no need to arrive too early for the event.  My swim start time was estimated a 9:25am and it was pretty much on time.  My Dad was also racing and started around 8am.   The weather was windy with a bit of sun and NO RAIN!  Yippee! The best part about this event is the HUGE amount of community support from the South Delta Triathlon Club and The Steveston Athletic Association .  Every second racer, volunteer and cheerleaders were friends.   The pool swim went well.  Glad we practiced 'annoying Delta swimmer' drills the week before.  Although, I was probably the annoying swimmer more than others.  I was the only one who was doing flip turns in the lane and made sure to make my presence known at each end.  Worked out well since my swim was quite fast and my lane count...

Delta Tri 2010 Race Report

I believe that 2010 marks the 5th time I have completed the Delta Sprint Triathlon .  It might be 6 times but 5 for sure.  Every year it marks the beginning of tri season for me and I look forward to doing the race.  I love seeing the all of the tri newbies mixed in with Elite and Pro triathletes.  This year the Race Director was Tracey Shelley (my swim coach) and it was the best run year so far.  Great job Tracey!!! I really felt no pressure going into this race.  I have not had as much structure this year as I did last year with my tri training.  In fact, I have only been outside on my bike 2x in 2010 including the race yesterday.  I did do a spin class once a week from January - March to maintain some of my bike fitness, but we all know that spinning isn't really like getting outside with your bike. My game plan...ok, I didn't really have one.  My husband asked me the night before the tri if I was going to PB the race.  I though...

Delta Tri 2009 Race Report

I am very happy to say that I had a PR today at the Delta Tri . I arrived at the race site at 6am to volunteer with Kids Of Steel race. Around 9am, my duties as volunteer check in person and bike traffic control were complete and started my race preparations. My race did not begin until 11:30am. As instructed by my coach, I ate an Almond Butter sandwich 2.5 hours before my race and a full 16oz bottle of GU20. I then racked my bike and set out my transition. The weather was chilly and windy but I still felt that I could get away with a short sleeve jersey. To swim, I wore a pair of tri shorts and a tri bra top. Both of these worked out perfectly. By the time I completed my swim and was out on the bike the wind had died down and the sun was out (it was still chilly though 10C). On the bike a drank another 16oz of GU20. In this bike route there is only one hill. It is a highway overpass that you travel over 2x in the 2 loop course. Other than the overpass, I was very aware of keeping my ...
