Santa Shuffle Race Report

I have to laugh a little when I title this 'race report'. The Santa Shuffle is a non timed event to raise money for the Salvation Army. It is not really a race at all...unless you are me and my Dad.

We started the race at the front of the pack so that we didn't get slowed down by all the strollers and walkers. After a 3, 2, 1 countdown followed by Santa jingling his sleigh bells, we were off. The first mile I felt great but knew I was going a little faster than I should. About 15 minutes in to the run we did a quick stop at the water station for quick sip of water. This short stop also let my HR drop enough to feel like I wasn't going to throw up. We did another quick walk break just before the lighthouse and then there was no stopping us. Once we were around the corner on the seawall we could see the white tents of the finish line. With around 200m to go we both sprinted to the end and I really did beat my Dad by about 1 second. This would be the first time that I have ever beat him (although I am not 100% certain that he didn't let me win).

There is no offial race time but my Garmin405 time was 24:39. I have never really run 5kms before in a race so this is an offical PR in my books.

All in all, it was a great run and well run event. Runningbebe and I did get to meet before the run. This was an official Tweet Up. Unfortunately, I didn't see her after the run. The rain was really coming down and breakfast at Cafe Zen was calling. Hopefully, we can get together in the new year for a run.

Hey that's awesome your Dad runs too! I didn't realize he was there with you. Awesome time. I'll see you at another event in the New Year for sure! And I'll beat you yet ;)

Pave Culture Cycliste - Barcelona Bike Shop

In March we took a family trip to Spain for spring break.  The primary reason for this trip was to attend football (soccer) matches in Madrid and Barcelona.  As a family, we researched this trip A LOT and found A LOT of very cool things to do in the cities we visited (Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona).  One of those cool things was a destination bike shop in Barcelona.

We set aside one afternoon to head out to the shop.  Not having rented a car, we studied the train routes and schedules and determined it was about 30 mins outside of Barcelona in El Prat del Llobergat.

After missing our first train by about 2 minutes, we had to wait another 30 minutes for the next train.  This was the first of our missed connections and confusion for this journey.  Once we arrived at the train station closest to the shop, we still had about a 20 minute walk to the shop.  It is an industrial area so there were no taxis to be found.  The whole time we were travelling to the shop, I was secretly worried tha…

Fun

In early February, I bought a season's pass to Grouse Mountain.  I have owned a pass in the past but not in for a few years.  My main goal was to get up on Monday and/or Wednesday nights for the Social Snowshoe.  90 minutes snowshoeing up the Snowshoe Grind and over the back side of Dam Mountain.  Headlamps required.

Yes, these are terrible photos.  I only took photos this one time.  I realized that the iPhone will not take good photos in these conditions and you miss the actual moment trying to get a good photo.
In addition to Grouse, I have been up to Cypress Mountain Nordic area two times this season
